OVERVIEW

The Network/Telecom Engineering Manager is responsible for design and implementation of network infrastructure solutions. They are accountable for maintaining the network hardware and application infrastructure for environments on a day-to-day basis. The Network/Telecom Engineering Manager is also tasked with management and maintenance of phone / video hardware and infrastructure for environments as well as with design and implementation of phone / video solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor the on-going operations and overall performance of the network.
  • Ensure service level agreements (SLAs) with the business units meet requirements and are delivered.
  • Capture key performance metrics for the operations of the network including uptime, speed and bandwidth.
  • Design, implement and maintain key network infrastructure for development / testing environments.
  • Ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of network infrastructure required for new projects.
  • Help to drive architectural improvements and standardization for the network infrastructure environments, including: hardware, monitoring software and associated application Infrastructure.
  • Develop and enhance automated processes for releasing new solutions into the live environment.
  • Own the operations of the video and phone applications, and underlying hardware.
  • Collaborate with the Innovation Manager to understand the trends impacting the network environment.
  • Coordinate with the Network Architect to ensure capacity outpaces demand and the network is adequately sized.
  • Manage and direct the activities of up to 11 resources.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE

  • 7+ years relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or certification preferred
  • Knowledge of infrastructure design, implementation and operations.
  • Experience managing a Network Operations Center (NOC).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of assets and logical CMDB methods
  • Skilled with integration of security methods and requirements.
  • Understanding of the latest in network technologies.
  • Ability to effectively manage network services to defined Service Level Agreements.
  • Understanding of Disaster Recovery methods and processes.
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through problem-solving capabilities.
  • Reacts to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently.
  • Flexible during times of change.
  • Ability to read communication styles of team members and contractors who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments.
  • Ability to defuse tension among project team, should it arise.
  • Ability to bring project to successful completion through organizational dynamics.
