POSITION SUMMARY

The Director, eCommerce Merchandising is responsible for the creation and execution of our client’s digital merchandising strategies, goals, and objectives. Reporting to the SVP/GM of eCommerce, the role partners with the DMM, Omnichannel Merchandising on the development and execution of key product strategies, and with the Director, eCommerce Experience (media, UI/UX) in designing the supporting marketing and promotional activities to drive the business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leverage “smart commerce” solutions and best practices to create, execute, measure and optimize the merchandising strategy to meet financial goals.
  • Collaborate with omni merchandising to develop the appropriate omni and online exclusive product assortment considering customer needs and trends and the opportunity for online exclusives to drive the online business and support overall merchandising and product strategies and success. Drive customer experience and presentation of these strategies.
  • Develop and ensure execution of online business strategies, merchandise messages, and seasonal assortments to drive business KPIs (including Demand, Conversion, AOV, Returns) and enhance the customer experience.
  • Ensure best in class product experience on the site, including inspirational merchandise presentation, simple and intuitive category navigation, clear and accurate product details and operational excellence and attention to detail.
  • Collaborate with Planning to develop effective line and category plans, pricing strategies, and execute along the appropriate lines of business.
  • Partner with the Director, eCommerce Experience (and team) to support online growth and testing opportunities.
  • Take lead role in senior management meetings (business review meetings, monthly OTB, etc), presenting in-depth analysis of respective departments and classifications; must be able to sell and validate point of view with facts and analysis.
  • Develop and execute strategies utilizing knowledge based on analysis of business and competitive set, and consumer insights.
  • Consistently monitor and evaluate competitive and industry trends; translate into innovative, relevant, forward-thinking product and promotional plans.
  • Wide scope of decision making, including strategic priorities, site merchandising strategies, content development prioritization, technical improvement prioritization.
  • Analyze sales and web/mobile performance metrics identify business opportunities and risks; provide appropriate and timely direction to eCommerce and omnichannel business partners and team to react quickly to customer and business trends considering all business levers such as site changes, inventory management and marketing opportunities.
  • Maintain cost consciousness and strong awareness of profit.
  • Motivate, inspire and supervise team of merchandisers, assistants and coordinators. Support employees in developing goals for themselves and provide them with the appropriate tools and training for their professional development. Evaluate, establish and optimize organizational structure of the team.
  • Train, motivate and coach the eCommerce merchandising team to be customer-focused, innovative, detail oriented, proactive, accurate, fast, team-oriented and empowered in their work. Act as a role model of these ways of working.
  • Act as the catalyst to create an environment which encourages innovation, extraordinary presentation, and “best in class” performance.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; MBA preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in eCommerce Management required, 10+ years preferred.
  • 4+ years of DTC and/or eCommerce retail buying/merchandising experience.
  • 3+ years experience working on the Demandware / Salesforce Commerce Cloud platform preferred.
  • 2+ years experience working with AI-powered, eCommerce merchandising solutions such as Einstein.
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate strategies and implement short- and long-term tactical plans that are cost-effective, efficient and realistic.
  • Possess a clear understanding of financial measurements and how to impact them through eCommerce / “smart commerce” merchandising best practices.
  • Ability to introduce and sell innovative business ideas to partners and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to identify and quickly react to shifting behaviors and trends in digital commercial engagement.
  • Proven ability to effectively gain alignment and socialize innovation across a highly-matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated success in being an internal digital champion.
  • Demonstrated desire and ability to work effectively at both the strategic and tactical execution levels.
  • Executive presence and strong presentation skills to interact with senior level management.
  • Strong strategic and quantitative skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must be: able to handle multiple projects with adherence to deadlines; highly organized; able to work independently as well as on group projects; self-motivated and confident with some decision making.
  • Must have the ability to manage up, down and across with positive results.
  • Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced, premium eCommerce / omnichannel environment.
