POSITION SUMMARY

The Director, Diversity & Inclusion serves as the primary subject matter expert and architect of a comprehensive Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) strategy across the our client’s enterprise. The Director will oversee the development and implementation of an organization-wide D&I initiative. Our client has a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, and as a result has integrated D&I strategies into the their overarching business goals, core values, and employee core competencies. The Director will report directly to the Vice President, Human Resources and engage with the Chief Operating Officer/Chief Financial Officer, President/Chief Executive Officer, and the National Board of Trustees.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning & Oversight

  • Reviews current practices and policies, assessing and analyzing the extent to which they support or hinder enterprise-wide D&I goals
  • Actively researches, develops, recommends, and executes creative strategies to support the NPO’s D&I strategy pillar activities
  • Acts as a spokesperson for the D&I program inclusive of delivering presentations and facilitating discussion at staff and leadership team meetings
  • Designs the D&I content that will be leveraged for the learning and development of staff across the NPO
  • Integrates D&I content within a learning management system
  • Collects and analyzes statistical data to evaluate the employee demographics in accordance with strategy pillar goals, action plans, and tactics
  • Monitors progress of D&I strategy which includes annual review of action plans, staff surveys, and other evaluation strategies identified over time
  • Maintains knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Stakeholder Management

  • Has overall responsibility of the D&I program and provides oversight of and management to the Strategy Pillar Teams (Demographic Parity, Culture of D&I, and Health Access & Education) and the Inclusion Council
  • Works with the strategy pillar teams to assess company efforts on diversity programs, establish best practices, and identify programs to remove barriers that impact staff retention and advancement
  • Partner with Senior Director, Volunteer Engagement to develop programs that will aid with diversity volunteer recruitment
  • Liaise with the Education, Support, & Advocacy department to ensure that the community engagement approach aligns with the overarching D&I strategy
  • Works closely with the Marketing and Communication team to align our internal and external communications with the D&I strategy
  • Provides guidance to the Human Resources department and the Senior Leadership Team on developing D&I related performance objectives
  • Provides metrics and periodic D&I updates to the Vice President, Human Resources, the Senior Leadership Team, and National Board of Trustees
  • Coordinates with the Governance committee of the National Board to develop recruitment strategies that will aid with identifying diverse (i.e., gender, ethnicity/race) National Board of Trustees candidates
  • Serves as a coach and mentor for other positions within the HR department

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 8+ years of Human Resources or related experience preferred
  • 3+ years specializing in diversity, equity, and inclusion programs on national scale required
  • Track record of leadership in diversity, inclusion, and equity practices; preferably for national non-profit
  • Excel at building strong working relationships with multidisciplinary groups
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong project management experience with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
