POSITION SUMMARY
The Dolby Atmos Engineer is responsible for designing, mixing, mastering, and delivering immersive audio content utilizing Dolby Atmos technology. In support of music production, film production, television production, and enhanced gaming, this role collaborates with producers, directors, sound designers, composers, and technical teams to create three-dimensional audio experiences that meet artistic and technical standards across multiple playback environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Audio Mixing & Production
- Create and mix immersive audio content using Dolby Atmos workflows.
- Configure and manage object-based audio elements within Atmos environments.
- Produce final deliverables for theatrical, streaming, broadcast, music, gaming, and home entertainment platforms.
- Balance dialogue, music, sound effects, and ambient elements for optimal spatial presentation.
Technical Engineering
- Operate and maintain Dolby Atmos rendering and monitoring systems.
- Calibrate and verify speaker arrays and monitoring environments.
- Troubleshoot audio routing, synchronization, and rendering issues.
- Ensure compliance with Dolby specifications and industry standards.
Post-Production
- Collaborate with editors, re-recording mixers, composers, and sound designers.
- Prepare ADM BWF files and Atmos master deliverables.
- Conduct quality control reviews and technical audits of Atmos mixes.
- Perform downmix verification for stereo, 5.1, and 7.1 playback systems.
Workflow Optimization
- Develop Atmos production templates and best practices.
- Document technical processes and signal flows.
- Research emerging immersive audio technologies and industry trends.
- Support integration of Atmos workflows into production pipelines.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering, Music Production, Sound Design, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of professional audio engineering experience.
- 2+ years Hands-on experience with Dolby Atmos production and delivery.
- Advanced proficiency with:
- Pro Tools
- Dolby Atmos Renderer
- Digital audio consoles and signal processing equipment
- Strong understanding of:
- Object-based audio
- Acoustics and psychoacoustics
- Audio networking protocols
- Surround and immersive audio formats
Preferred
- Dolby Atmos certification or equivalent training.
- Experience in film, television, gaming, music, or live event production.
- Knowledge of:
- Nuendo
- Logic Pro
- Ableton Live
- Audio-over-IP technologies such as Dante.
- Familiarity with cloud-based production workflows.
