POSITION SUMMARY
The Certified Robotic Surgical Technician is a vital member of the surgical team, specializing in the preparation, maintenance, and operation of robotic surgical systems. This position requires a high level of expertise in robotic technology and surgical procedures to ensure the highest standards of patient care and surgical outcomes. The technician works closely with surgeons, nurses, and other medical personnel to provide safe, efficient surgical environments and successful surgical outcomes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Preparation and Setup:
- Prepare the operating room for robotic surgeries, ensuring all robotic systems and instruments are sterile and functioning correctly.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to confirm the procedure specifics and required equipment.
- Perform system checks and calibrations on robotic surgical systems before each procedure.
2. Operation and Assistance:
- Assist the surgical team during robotic procedures by operating and troubleshooting robotic systems.
- Monitor the robotic systems during surgery to ensure optimal performance and address any issues promptly.
- Provide hands-on support for the positioning of robotic arms and adjustment of equipment during surgery.
3. Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of robotic surgical systems and instruments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with robotic systems, coordinating with biomedical engineering for complex repairs.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repair activities.
4. Patient Safety and Quality Assurance:
- Adhere to all hospital policies and regulatory standards to ensure patient safety and high-quality care.
- Participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives within the surgical services department.
- Educate and train surgical staff on robotic system operations and best practices.
5. Inventory and Supplies Management:
- Manage inventory of robotic instruments and supplies, ensuring availability and proper storage.
- Coordinate with the procurement department to order and restock necessary supplies and equipment.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education:
- Bachelors Degree from accredited college or university in Biology, Chemistry, Health Science, Surgical Technology or related field.
2. Certification:
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or equivalent.
- Certification in robotic surgery technology (e.g., Intuitive Surgical’s da Vinci System certification) is highly desirable.
3. Experience:
- Minimum of three years of experience as a surgical technologist, with at least two years in robotic-assisted surgery.
- Hands-on experience with robotic surgical systems and instrumentation.
- Proficient in the operation and troubleshooting of robotic surgical systems.
- Strong understanding of surgical procedures and sterile techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced surgical environment.
4. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- This position involves exposure to a clinical environment, including potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious materials.
- Requires standing for long periods and the ability to lift and move surgical equipment.
- May involve working irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate surgical schedules.
- Ability to lift and transport robotic equipment and supplies.
- Manual dexterity to handle and manipulate small surgical instruments.
- Visual and auditory acuity to monitor robotic systems and communicate effectively with the surgical team.
