POSITION SUMMARY
The Project Management Office (PMO) within the Office of the CTO is responsible for managing and delivering the annual investment portfolio for our client’s Technology Group. The Sr. Director PMO will be responsible for directing and overseeing the Technology Project Management Office (PMO) to ensure technology projects are executed in accordance with organizational goals and requirements.
This role reports to the CTO and will lead a team of Project/Portfolio Managers responsible for project delivery and execution (waterfall and agile) by leveraging the processes, technology, tooling, and governance needed to achieve quality deliveries. This position will manage 5 Project Managers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct and oversee the Project Management Office (PMO) to ensure projects are executed in accordance with organizational goals and requirements
- Act as single point of contact working closely with the leadership team to drive the overall project management strategy and managing a portfolio of projects: building synergies between unrelated/related projects or programs, aligning strategic business objectives, increasing business value through people management, change control, risk management, and resource management
- Track and monitor performance of the investment portfolio. Own and deliver PMO performance dashboards including KPIs for overall portfolio health, financial health, resource management etc.
- Co-lead PMO transformations
- Oversee development of project documentation including project charters, project plans, RFP’s, process maps, and business requirements
- Anticipate and aggressively remove obstacles that slow down progress, escalate and mitigate risks/issues to multiple levels of management, including executive leadership teams across the organization
- Closely collaborate across other functions including Supply Chain etc. to drive consistent reporting for strategic programs.
- Lead Release management function to identify interdependencies and risks across the project portfolio.
- Lead investment portfolio resource plans (in coordination with resource managers) that account for all resource capacity and utilization across the Technology Function while informing internal capitalization projections
- Sets standards for project management capabilities, best practices, governance, and tools used to manage projects. Ensure compliance to Project Delivery methods, tools, framework and controls.
- Build and execute a third-party sourcing strategy for project resources Manage supplier performance to ensure that contractual agreements are met.
- Partner with the Budget Management team to closely monitor and deliver the financial commitments. Partner with Finance, Project Teams, and Product owners to ensure all financial cadences (e.g., Quarterly budgeting cycles, month-end closings, etc.) are supported by and aligned to portfolio financials
- Lead and develop a high-performing Project Management team. Build and lead a best-in-class team and facilitate their success in maintaining and improving the confidence of internal and external constituencies
- Lead and inspire teams in Project & Program Management to develop and establish a high performing, service driven culture committed to failing fast, leaning out waste and, delivering business value.
- Develop leaders and team members for building a pipeline of succession; provide ongoing feedback and coaching related to performance; prioritizing associate engagement and being a champion for diversity.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
- 10+ years practical experience at varying levels of portfolio/project/program management
- Solid experience managing $5M+ complex cross functional Technology project portfolio and coordinating cross functional project members to deliver quality results on time
- Project Management certification a plus, but not required. Emphasis is on demonstrated use of PMP, Scrum, Agile, etc.
- Experience working in a product-based organization
- Thorough understanding of enterprise software development lifecycle; ability to adjust and apply this knowledge in a dynamic environment using agile methodologies
- Outstanding people leadership skills to lead, motivate, and guide program managers and the ability to network, build relationships, and drive effective decision-making across multiple functions and levels within the organization
- Bring a data-driven approach to decision making, both in day-to-day activities and when helping others make strategic trade-offs
- Strategic thinker who sees the big picture yet switches to a pragmatic mode for step-by-step execution to ensure success
- E-commerce experience is a plus
- Experience with lean portfolio management
- MBA or advanced degree in relevant business-related field.
- Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, relationship-building skills conducive to collaboration; able to work well in a cross-functional environment
- Ability to establish credibility and rapport with senior executives and technical and non-technical team members alike
- Strong financial acumen
- Interpreting and applying understanding of key financial indicators to make better business decisions.
