POSITION SUMMARY
Our client, a “stealth” travel tech startup with global aspirations, seeks an innovative technology leader with prior successful startup experience. Our client has recently closed a $12 million Series A funding round and looks forward to kicking its existing exploratory (PoC) operation into high gear.
The PMO Director will be focused on supporting B2C large-scale cross-functional programs that affect consumer facing platforms. In addition to directly managing a group of project management resources, this individual will collaborate with company leadership to set direction, objectives and long-term vision for cross-functional, large-scale programs and governance for all projects.
Leading one of the most critical functions at our client, a successful candidate must have experience designing and implementing program and project management best practices. This is a role best suited to proven leader adept at executing complex programs in highly matrixed environments through influence with strong communication and professional development skills and a deep commitment to process and compliance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and implement best practices and governance model for large-scale programs across the Product and Technology organizations.
- Develop, enhance and monitor program management methodologies.
- Work closely with organizational leadership to ensure compliance to program management standards.
- Provide thought leadership to program leaders and teams.
- Coordinate with senior management on program communication strategy.
- Responsible for program and project management for a selection of programs.
- Work closely with leadership to ensure that project deliverables and timelines are consistent with our client’s technology and business priorities.
- Ensure project status is reported clearly, consistently and reliably to executive management and team members.
- Display consistent use of project management methodologies.
- Maintain project documentation in an appropriate project repository for easy access by stakeholders.
- Support team members and empower them so they can complete their activities in timely manner and with quality.
- Ensure that change management processes are followed.
- Manage, coach and mentor program and project managers on project management and agile best practices.
- Help define process improvements and feedback for projects that need creative project management strategies required for timely execution.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 8 years of project management experience supporting large scale enterprises
- Minimum 5 years of program management leadership experience
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in Information Technology / Engineering
- Hold current PMP certification (PMI)
- Must have experience with consumer facing eCommerce websites and understand the unique challenges that come with that platform.
- Has an advanced knowledge of program and project management methodologies; core knowledge of Agile and Waterfall methodologies and SDLC required
- Demonstrated leadership and experience with large-scale, complex, cross discipline technology projects, including scope definition, schedule development and management, communications and stakeholder engagement activities
- Demonstrated success in planning and launching new initiatives
- Able to provide guidance to other program and project managers on which processes and tools to apply based on project and stakeholder needs
- Experience with Agile (Scrum/Kanban) frameworks required; experience transitioning teams from waterfall to Scrum and/or Kanban methodologies preferred
- Experience with eCommerce Abuse Prevention and Fraud not required, but strongly preferred.
- Exceptionally strong written and oral communication skills and ability to work with all levels of the organization
- Executive reporting experience required; able to provide clear and concise verbal and written project status updates at the Senior Leadership Team (C-level) via multiple approaches with limited to no supervisory review
- Able to resolve conflicts and negotiate agreements; able to propose innovative solutions while balancing impacts to scope, schedule and cost
- Proven experience with risk management; can confidently convey risks, issues and blockers and present alongside proposed mitigation or resolution plans
- Able to proactively identify and either eliminate or mitigate program/project dependencies during planning
- Experience managing, training or coaching other project managers required
- Experience with JIRA and Confluence preferred
- Knowledge of Fraud mitigation and eCommerce experience both a plus, but not mandatory
- Ability to work in fast-paced, multi-task, fluid environment capable of reacting instantly to changes in a competitive business environment
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills – innate capability to create order out of chaos
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with interpersonal and influencing skills (at all levels internally, externally and cross-functionally)
